Rush Hour Junior (RHJ) and Rush Hour Multi-sensory Game

Work through the cards in sequence.  Logic builds from card to card increasing skills and strategies necessary to solve upcoming puzzles. 

1.       Establish players dominant hand (left or right handedness) This is the ONLY hand allowed to move the vehicles.  The other hand isn’t allowed to play.

2.       Establish the names for each of the 4 directions that the vehicles may travel:

a.       “to the LEFT”

b.        “to the RIGHT”

c.       “UP the street” – toward the top of the game

d.       “DOWN the street” – toward the bottom of the game

 

 3. The object of these games is to move the vehicles one at a time with your dominant hand while simultaneously verbalizing the direction as shown in quotations above. 

 VIP* Verbal description must accompany and match each move. 

Connecting movements with clear precise descriptions will activate thinking and planning while deactivating impulsivity.

4.       Winning:  Create a path for the target vehicle to exit the gate on the right side of the board and say:

a.       “ICE-CREAM TRUCK RIGHT OUT THE GATE” is the winning statement for RHJ

b.       “RED CAR RIGHT OUT THE GATE” is the winning statement for RH 

5.       If a student requires a hint or assistance

a.       Discuss the options that they have tried and the results

b.       Share your idea for the next move including your reason

c.       Alternate turns, moving one vehicle at a time and sharing reasons

d.       Work together to discuss and test various moves to complete the card AND…

e.       RESET the same card

                        i.      The student will attempt to independently completer the card

                       ii.      DO NOT move onto the next card until the student is able to demonstrate independence.

                     iii.      Mastery learning is critical for the challenges ahead
